Derby Nomad Ramblers was established by Keith
Hands, Bill Ross, Major Chadwick, Stan Turner and Arthur Whitaker at
a meeting held at 5 Bloomfield Street, Derby on 5th. Sept 1935. Mr W
Ross was appointed Hon. Sec. The inaugural Nomad Ramble took place
on Sunday 8th September 1935 using for transport the old LMS 10-20
train ex. Derby to Edale. The walk over Kinder Scout included
“Lunch” at “The Sportsman Inn” - Hayfield.
A reputation as the hardest walking club in Derbyshire was
acquired, but the club has mellowed and walks are now organised to
suit most abilities.
The history of the club spans 8 decades. It is hoped that over time more information will be available.
