Nomads City Walk

Derby Nomads City Circular Way.

(under development)

Length 50 miles (80 kilometres)

This long distance walk is a circular walk around the city of Derby. It is being established to record and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Derby Nomad Ramblers walking club. It goes through the rolling countryside that surrounds Derby and for the most part you would not realise how close you were to the city. It is not a hard walk but designed so that most active people and families would be able to do the walk in stages. It is not suitable for pushchairs or wheel chairs. There are bus routes to and from the suggested stages and with a car could be started from most points where a road intersects the route. There is a full set of walking instructions and the route follows footpaths found on three maps Explorer 259, 260 and 245. The route has also been designed to take in some of the history of Derby and so passes through many on the historic villages surrounding Derby. It goes past old Mills, many Pubs, and Churches plus a hermit’s cave it also passes more modern additions like the Toyota car factory. It also crosses the Derwent and Trent rivers and follows canals and presents the walker with some fine views of the countryside around Derby. The walk is not yet way marked nor marked on the maps as a long distance path but the walking instruction can be used.
